LPs, CDs, and iTunes

 LPs? CDs? iTunes? Streaming?

In 2018, when we started working on the music that became the impetus to create Spare Time Records, none of us at Spare Time Partners, LLC had a fixed idea about how we would make our work available to the public.

The resurgence of the popularity of vinyl is near and dear to our hearts. We hope to be able to release each Spare Time project as a 180-gram vinyl LP. But more than that, we are committed to producing the best-playing LPs that we can. That is why in addition to making Travis spend umpteen hours mixing and then remixing every song (while Bobby and Kirk sit back and offer their highly prized input), we also ask Travis and Bobby to attend the mastering sessions. And if that were not enough, we ask Bobby and Travis to attend the master cutting session at Welcome to 1979 Industries (Nashville) where the lacquer is cut to produce the “mothers” and then the stampers for the vinyl presses. We are committed to overseeing each step of the production process to ensure the highest quality vinyl disc.

The process for the creation of CDs runs parallel to that of the LPs until we get to the mastering session where the sequence for the CD is determined and the replication master is created for the CD manufacturer.

Also, the mastering session provides us with the individual song masters that we provide to iTunes.

Spare Time LPs and CDs are available through record shops and worldwide here in the Spare Time Store. And, of course, Spare Time’s music is available from Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube and a few dozen more digital stores. Stream on … stream on …

As veterans of the music industry, we understand, better than most, how difficult it is to create a successful record label. We intend to keep creating and recording new music with great artists as long as we can. But hey, we love recording, vinyl is in our blood … what can you do?
